Our Grade 9s went to Busisa Adventures in the Karkloof. Although there were many fun activities, the goal was also to start pondering the questions “who am I, where am I going?” while having the support and sounding board of their classmates in a green, down-to-earth natural environment.
The 2022 Prefects spent their weekend at the Harburg Retreat Centre, where they discussed the vision and goals for the year ahead and how they could best promote the ethos of our school to new scholars (and re-affirm it to existing scholars). Short sessions on situational leadership, the need for rules in a community, their various portfolios for the year and other school-related topics were informative and took place in a calm and accepting atmosphere, despite some differences of opinion. They emerged from the weekend with a common purpose everyone can ‘get behind’.
Our thanks go to the teachers who organised the camps and accompanied the groups, as well as to the parents who supported their children going on the camps.
Hermannsburg’s Grade 8s enjoyed their weekend camp, which ended off their orientation week with many fun activities that allowed the class to bond and each individual to experience the camaraderie within the class.
Some of Hermannsburg’s Grade 9 boys preparing ‘stokbrood’ (bread on a stick) as part of their Grade camp to start off their year with the question of what each one wishes to achieve in the coming years.
