Hermannsburg’s 28th Golf Day on Saturday, 18 September dawned with clouds giving way to sunshine as the golfers started teeing off on the golf course at St Cathryn’s Golf Estate from early on and throughout the morning. Despite the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, 77 golfers completed their 18-hole rounds, enjoying the challenges and camaraderie as they played across the immaculate greens and fairways carefully prepared by Piet Nel and his team of assistants. At half-time the golfers enjoyed their snacks, prepared by Cathy Nel, Gary Tatton and their helpers, in the open air around the club-house. As the day drew to a successful close, the frustrations of sliced drives and wayward putts were put aside as the first 17 places received their prizes, generously donated by the many sponsors who faithfully support our school. Our thanks go to all our sponsors and to the golfers, and to the golf day committee. Our thanks also go to Zola Mkumla and his wife, Bessie, for ‘keeping the dream alive’ with their unwavering support for our school, the HMB Golf Day and the Penrose Golf Academy (coaching the next generation of golfers at Hermannsburg).
We congratulate Alpha Zwane and MC Biyela, who received golf bags and the floating trophy for achieving the most points on the day. They were closely followed by Mike & Sue Harrison and M Sibya & M Ghrens in the four-ball better-ball Stableford scores. Technical prizes went to Poobie Naidoo (nearest the pin on 9/18), Dieter Veenstra (nearest the pin on 2/11), Dieter Meyer (nearest the pin for 2 on 12), Kyle Barkley (longest drive on 10, men) and Fran Scott (longest drive on 10, ladies).
Mr Alpha Zwane and Mr MC Biyela with the floating trophy (signed by Gary Player), presented to them by Mrs Brigitte du Preez (director on the school board) at the 28th Hermannsburg Golf Day, held at St Cathryn’s Golf Estate on Saturday, 18 September 2021.
